Honda was one of the first automakers to begin promoting hydrogen as a possible solution for issues such as global warming and dependence on fossil fuels. Honda has been positioning its fuel cell vehicles (FCVs), which emit only water, as the ultimate environmentally responsible vehicle and has taken a proactive approach to the research and development of FCVs since the late 1980s.

Building on Honda's longstanding commitment to advancing low and zero emission vehicle technologies, the company introduced the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell in 2017, offering consumers a large, 5-passenger zero-emission sedan with an EPA rated range of 366 miles. In recognition of its class leading size, packaging, range and technology advancements, the Clarity was awarded “Green Car of the Year” by Green Car Journal and Edmunds CES Tech Driven Award for Most Innovative Car of the Year.

Recently, Honda announced that its next generation Fuel Cell vehicle will be built in its Ohio factory, based on the CR-V SUV body, starting in 2024.
